If you’re thinking lucky leprechauns and a little bit of magic, then March is the perfect time to pick up a new book to read to your child. Before we share a list of the 7 best books to read to your child for St. Patrick’s Day, let’s look at the traditions and history of this holiday.
People in the United States celebrate this holiday with traditional meals of corned beef and cabbage, they wear green on March 17th so they don’t get pinched, and communities all over the country host parades and more. For the adults, green beer is a common treat served in restaurants and bars. In Ireland, banks close in celebration of St. Patrick.
The roots of this luck-filled holiday are with a man who was captured by pagans and brought to live in Ireland. He eventually established many Catholic churches in the region. Although he was never properly canonized by the Pope, he is still revered and celebrated as a saint.
Children’s books, however, are filled with fun characters that share a little luck with their friends. These stories are a fun way to celebrate and give a bit of goodness to the world. By reading to your children, you improve their language skills, and also expose them to new cultures and traditions.
